AVF video files - HELP!!!
« on: March 27, 2008, 10:55:01 PM »
Help!

Ive been given a video in *.avf format and cant get it to play, ive tried looking for a codec etc but have failed to locate one so far!

If anyone knows of a codec or a way I can convert it into a more friendly format I would really appreciate it!

I need to get it sorted as a matter of urgency!

..do you have an associated .avr file as well ?

these formats seem to be a proprietary format associated with some Mediastar PVR/DVB recorders....

Well the second part is right Huw. It's a CCTV recording from a Avermedia CCTV box! Although the owner of the system does not have any software to play the video once it has been backed up onto a HDD.

Jimmy, here is no associated .AVR file with it! and Im sure it was a DVR recorder!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Try downloading VLC Media Player and running it in that. VLC handles an amazing amount of different formats.

If that doesn't work try this link and search for avf.

BTW I know I'm stating the obvious but always work on copies of the original file just in case something goes wrong.

There are rumours that it may play by simply renaming to another 2supported" format extension - try renaming or copying the file tio x.avi or x.mpg etc. and try with normal media player (like VLC etc.)

If we're helping NW Police does that mean that we're 'deputised' for the day?  :D

Huw you genius, worked a treat! However I still need to find something that can convert it into a more friendly format that windows will recognise without having to download Codecs!

Cheers!

Does VLC tell you what format it "thinks" it is ?
