Personal gunfights
« on: May 31, 2008, 08:17:45 PM »
Inspired by, and following on from the "Gunfight at the Mynydd Llandegai" thread, I thought it would be interesting if people wanted to share any personal experinces of using Karate.

Have you been able to use the developed confidence to "talk down" from a confrontation.

Have you ever needed to use your self defense skills for yourself or your family?

I personally have not, fortuneatly, but a few months ago, I was discussing with a close friend/former colleague, a long time practitioner of Jiu-Jitsu.

During his wifes works party, two xmas's ago, he talked a guy down twice. but unfortuneatly, had to restrain, then a few minutes later, had to do so more focibly.

Hopefully, our preparation will keep us away from trouble.........

:D  Quite often get some customers who do try to be a bit mouthy with women,  had one incident nothing major just got between a  young lad (13) and a man. The man and his mate had accused the young lad of chucking a snowball and smashing their window, the men were  chasing the young lad, who ran into the shop.

One of the men was about to punch the lad,, no matter what he had done or not, I wasn't going to stand by and watch a child get beaten up by two men. I shouted at him  that it was a child he was about to hit, told him to back off, after a lot of swearing  and shouting he did back off
I got  the boy into the  back office called the police , as the two men were still waiting outside for him,  I called his parents.  He came in two days later to thank me with a box of chocs.

Life as a shop assistant can be a little bit exciting...... sometimes

Are you suggesting that your spring rolls are tough enough to sort out any trouble?

You dont get drunk customers on occasion Alex?

I worked behind a bar a few years ago, drink can often turn people ugly.

I have had my fair share of Alcohol over the years, but when my son was born 13 years ago, I cut back almost completely, not for any specific single reason, but I guess its about control. If he was ever ill/injured, I would want to be able to be there!
