"Speed" vs "Prior Movement"
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:29:38 PM »
The question is - when initiating an attack is absolute "speed" (given human body constraints) more important than minimising "prior movement" ?

Light travels faster than sound..also eye responses to the brain are instantaneous.
Prior movement let's your opponent know you are on the way, therefore his body starts to get ready subconsciously for oncoming attack.
Therefore I believe that minimising prior movement must be more important because no matter how fast you are, that element of surprise gives the edge.

I agree with you on that Moley - on the recent Dave Hazard course I could not believe how fast Dave seemed to be moving (bearing in mind he's mustbe around 60 now) - but on analysing him I'm convinced it was a total lack of prior movement that really made the difference. That's not to say that he's not fast as well of course  :D
