kihon ippon
« on: July 10, 2008, 08:25:23 PM »
A bit of a dilemma I'm afraid.
Regarding the above subject, are we suppose to allow the opponent to carry out their counter without blocking at all even though they may come with a combination quite aggressively (aggressive doesn't bother me), its my reaction that bothers me in that I tend to try and block after the first counter. I enjoy being in kumite but its important for me personally to act appropriately.

In kihon Ippon, after you have attacked, and your opponent has blocked, he/she then has (what Gwyn calls) a "free shot"  i.e. they counter without you blocking or reacting.  However, it is considered very bad form to connect with the counter.  Mistakes can happen, but the intent should not be to make any significant contact.  As we progress through the different kumite drills, then we get to drills in which you are reacting e.g. nan Demo Sanbon.  The "rules" are then different.

Combination counters are sometimes used by Dan grades, kyu grades should - by and large - stick to the single counter of Kihon ippon, as this develops control.

Everything. If there was ever anyone brought into this world purely for the purposes of being the ultimate fighting machine, then I'd have to say Shane has a good chance of being that person IMO.

He has that look about him when he fights in karate, like you really are the enemy and you must be destroyed! Im not saying others done adopt the same look when fight an opponent, but Shane just looks genuinely like he wants to cut your life short for you!

Look even when he floored Darth Mole Bach it wasnt enough, he still had to go in for the kill! He should be in chains and shackles at all times and only let out of them when inside the Dojo!
