Jimmy,

I know because I am so easy to get along with, blah blah blah, that it seems like I have been around a while, but actually, its only been about four months. So I think I have a write to I am really enjoying it so  :P :P back to you an all.

Indeed andy - just make sure you never go out wearing a Brown Tie

 No chance of that Jimmy, the furthest I go back is thin black leather ties, clearly you remember when brown ties were in?

Nope - although if I owned one I'd be able to wear it in Public - unlike your good self Andy

That may be the case, but why make the point, you appear to be saying that the ability, the fact that it may be okay, may blend...........is a good thing? :D

here I go again,
During training last night, we lined up to do jodan, chudan, mae geri and a counter. my partner bluffed a mae geri I sabaki and block and then the mae geri came in , should I have gone in with my counter after the bluff(it was a significant bluff)?

How senior was your partner? A full-on bluff during kihon ippon isn't really good practise - unless maybe your partner thinks your anticipating the attack too much (which I doubt).

it was a significant bluff
Can you describe the bluff?

yes! the knee came up a good 6 inches, I did mention it and apparently its common practice in another martial art, my point is not if the bluff was correct but should I have committed to the counter?

If the knee came up so far I'd describe that as more of an abortive attack than a bluff! Under the circumstances you describe I'd say that you'd be perfectly entitled to counter.

I'm guessing that if the knee came up 6 inches then the kicking foot left the ground - in which case I'd certainly have shifted and countered.....

If they do it again........deck em.

Kihon kumite is practice for BOTH partners, not the proverbial "shooting fish in a barrel"; bluffing is basically cheating in these exercises, so if the foot leaves the ground, that's an attack.

I get the message, only thing is my moves are far from instinctive or quick enough, when the norm is not adhered to at the moment I tend to freeze with curiosity and miss the opening. :( :x
