when does stupid painful mistakes stop.

Why can't I just listen to someone when they say don't block a mai geri especially with an open bl**dy hand?

I think so, my second finger is growing in circumference, getting stiff and a nice colour red and blue. I've put it in ice for the last 40 min but doesn't seem to do nothing

can you move it?  if you do not have full movement then you may have dislocated it - in which case it needs hospital attention to reduce the dislocation.  Also, from the symptoms you describe you may have broken the finger.  Get it checked asap

Hope it's not as bad as it seems and heals quickly.

I think you'll find that he was referring to "Zanshin" Liam - the state of Awareness..... and not the Kata Sanchin or the Stance

Sanchin meaning three battles, is sometimes interpreted as the battle to unify the mind, body, and spirit

so perhaps both are correct in a way

He obviously had Zanchin because he blocked the mae geri.

surprise! no one in waiting room and only 3 in ward. Thinking back I had closed my fist, the finger went to the side I took a full blow to the hand from the mai geri, which ever way you look at it my sabaki was dreadful and I got what I deserved no excuses.

Andy the purple white, good kick though. I didn't move enough only half a step and wallop, i've found that I have a tendency to block mai geri instead of moving from its path. Hopefully this will teach me a lesson. Am I ok for Kata and kihon training only when I turn up on Thursday?

...to avoid possible further injury to the broken finger I guess....

Sabaki - "Move First - Block Last" - I always find it strange how we/I only seem to have a problem with this with the strong fast techniques that are the ones we really "need" the Sabaki with. I suppose it's a mental thing for me as I sometimes seem to almost freeze and try to rely on the block when it's so much easier and effective to move out of the way..... :(
