What do new Kyu grades think ?
« on: October 10, 2008, 07:58:01 PM »
When new Kyu grades come to the Mondays and Thursday classes..
1. What is their first impression ?

2. What do they think ?

Feedback.... Thanks.....

3.What do they think when they see instructor demonstrating what is to be done using "Young Guns" (Shane / Azzy/ Guy / Huw / Alex / etc) as uke (partners)

4. What do they think when we have "Shobu Ippon"  (Competition fights i.e. "oldies" (Moley etc) VS "Young guns" (Shane etc)

Does it encourage or scare away..?

Also how can one "MOTIVATE" without frothing at the mouth ??????????????????????

1. What is their first impression ?
Loads of senior grades, so many dan grades, slightly overawed, but well looked after. Everyone is supported well, often individually in the first few lessons.

Shari, Huw, Dave, Emma, Ben, all have encoraged, assisted, everyone coaches during kumite, each with another aspect to improve, I'm sure you cant help but feel that you are being educated well.

2. What do they think ?
When I leave, I always think, and hear "Great Lesson" we sweat, which is what I wanted, to work hard, but learning karate at the same time, not working on a six pack.

3.What do they think when they see instructor demonstrating what is to be done using "Young Guns" (Shane / Azzy/ Guy / Huw / Alex / etc) as uke (partners)

Inspirational for me personally, it always seems to be appreciated by others

4. What do they think when we have "Shobu Ippon"  (Competition fights i.e. "oldies" (Moley etc) VS "Young guns" (Shane etc)

Does it encourage or scare away..?

It reminds that we are in a martial art, clarifies for some I'm sure, who may be in the wrong place, but perhaps those that are scared off, (if any) should find an alternate way.

For me personally, it encourages, when you see Shane, Azzy and others step up, and the speed, technique, effort, it always gets you working harder.

IMHO

I find it difficult to reply to this one because everything changes as you progress, what motivates, what satisfies.first immpression? its a personal thing. I keep getting first immpresions or feelings with every new move that I see, hate it,love it, scared of it.
I think most come to the monday/thursday because they want the next stage, they already have the bug in them, the immpresion  of whats ahead is ingrained due to the wednesday training.
seeing shobu ippon first time -  yes, I want a bit of that.
I personnally found in the begginning that when watching the high grades they demonstrate great technique, control etc, but  that its there for anyone to reach if they want it and its quality.
young guns v oldies - we are able to see that some adapt a little differently to others, due to physique etc and that its ok ,example-my karate is going to be quite different to Bones say-he's smaller, lighter, fitter, started younger, and thats fine, as long as I work just as hard (as hard as I'm able to) that is the satisfaction.
motivation comes by seeing all the dan grades giving it everything. and of course getting one thru now and again.

Does it encourage or scare away..?

Also how can one "MOTIVATE" without frothing at the mouth ??????????????????????
i've asked Melen, and this is what she says:
1. it's a lot harder
2.looking forward to training with higher grades specially partner work. its better training with people who got experience
3.its great to see how things are done properly instead of just saying how to do something
4.fun, better than training
Does it encourage or scare away..?...don't know, can't answer
Also how can one "MOTIVATE" without frothing at the mouth...........move kids to partner adult because of size not age
                          .............................................
some of these answers may not be what you need but its from Melen herself.
