again a old post im commenting on (im terrible for this Razz)

on the original video link: ive seen hundereds of these and their usualy totaly trash

my next point - you cant compare kung fu to anything - because there are a lot of different kung fu schools each totaly different ( i have spent around 10 years doing wing Chun kung fu - ask me to do something like tiger or white eyebrow and ill be totaly and utterly lost) kung fu itself is a term like martial arts, it basicaly signifies a skill gained through countless repeitions.

i cant comment to much on the differences between Kung fu and karate for 2 reasons

1) im dont know enough about karate yet to do so
2) as i said kung fu is a umbrella term.

but i can comment on differences between karate and my kung fu expirience

1) Karate is a open stlye - it has distance to use the punching and kicking ranges in combat, WC is very close using the trapping range
2) karate is a powerful style - each move has massive impact (or so i gather so far)and uses the whole body to deliver that power, WC is a "soft" style - quick, fast, flexible relying on frequency of hits rather than power of a single move

but in the end the idea is the same - your fist, connects with opponents face Smile just the delivery methods are different.

but again to highlight the differences ive posted links to my favorite WC movie fight and my favorite karate movie fight - which shows a lot of difference between the style

from the film ip man

from the film best of the best

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adg6AFdJY9c&feature=related

but while there are differences, there are also similarities - the first style i did as a "adult" was something called wu shu kwan ("chines kickboxing") though this was supposed to be based on Kung fu - one thing i have noted these past 4 weeks - a lot of the moves from this chinese style are exactly the same as shotokan...look hard enough and you will find similarities in all styles - after all they were made by people!

in the end i think it all comes down to different strokes for diffferent folkes, its up to each person to find what suits them best and go with it.

personaly i love training all martial arts - i love to learn, i love to grow - the past few yrs where i had to take a break were difficult and im overjoyed to be back in to it.
