I have seen JKA (I think) Jyu Ippon as a test, against multiple opponents one or two at a time, a powerfull test, and honorable.

This lacked honour in my opinion, and was scrappy, the Karateka falling into? parents? students in civiies?

No no no, IMVHO

Better start watching my opponents properly then, and improving my sabaki, and reducing the tension before a technique, and stepping forward but head last, mmmmmmmmmmm might be some time.

OK, sabaki, not tensing up may I guess come with time and practise, but can anyone help with information on how I can improve my general punching technique.

I have had many comments that its too forced, and lumpy, ie not smooth. Keen to progress.

Fire from the hip...don't "slap" down from a high position.

Move faster..... Fire your punches... don't just "Push" them out....

Switch ON...... Go for it.......

Sweat more in training...bleed less in battle.............

Oss. Thanks Gwyn, will keep working on it, and never tire of sweating.

Your quote reminds me of "Robin Hood" the Kevin Costner version,

He kept getting knocked down by John LIttle, and advice given to him was "Move faster, try harder"

Still (IMO) you've gotta admire the spirit and determination of the guy grading - techniques are largely irrelevant in the circumstances of that kumite test session.......

This kumite has no technical merit. It shows that the participants are not able to hold their technique together when they are under pressure / or tired and deliver one telling blow either in attack or defense. The fact that they don't seem to have any decisive power or control of the techniques is testimony to this . ( If they had any good technique in the first place that is ..... )

If we were allowed to do grading kumite without control I am sure it would be a 'phone the doctor' situation swiftly followed by a mop and bucket to clean all the claret off the floor....IMHO !

....it was interesting to me that despite there apparently being no need for control - no real damage was done....

agreed Thomas.  As Dave J has pointed out, there is little karate technique demonstrated - looks like a Saturday night brawl between poorly trained opponents.  I see little value in this sort of grading "kumite" - does beg the question of what are the examiners grading exactly?

Must be the "Spirit" element I guess Dave - after all its hardly the "100 Man Kumite Test" is it ?

I was not meaning the manner of the guy grading, more the set up, and manner of the whole test.

I will watch it again from your perspective Jimmy.
