My next Kata is Heian Sandan.
I have been looking for good examples of bunkai to help visualise/reinforce the intent, thus helping with power, kime etc
I have found one or two examples, but nothing that has blown me away, does anyone have some good links?
I cannot add the links I have so far (you tube a prohibited site at work!) but I have found an old JKA demo (situated in field) and another from a small club video.
Thanks in advance.

Same problem here at work Andy - are there any "key points" in H3 that you are particularly interested in or can't you "come up with" something for any of it ? Also I guess that you are looking for "Training Wheels Bunkai" ? Jim

I'm also without You Tube at work. A shame really as there are some great educational things on it. I use to refer to Churchill's speeches etc etc

Hej, If there is no JKA bunkai videos available for Heian Sandan, perhaps you could search for pinan sandan and see which of the bunkais for that kata still is applicable when using your stances in the kata. The names change frequently for these katas... For some of the videos, I can see that it may perhaps be a bit difficult to see which part of the kata is applied in the bunkai (since I guess that you would not know what the kata being applied looks like) but for some of them, I think you could get an idea at least. Hope that you find something. /Fredrik

I disliked Heian Sandan a a kyu grade - most do I think. Now I find some excellent applications in H3 and really enjoy the challenge of the various stance transitions that take place in it. One of the key things to H3 is to keep low in order to generate kime, go high and you just won't be able to do it, especially on the end 2 moves.

I always thought I had a strange streak, now I know I do, as I actually really like Heian Sandan.

Thanks Jimmy. Luca Valdesi should of been a first search for me, as I'm sure he has recorded most heian katas and many others also.

FWIW - his "took some finding" as most of his stuff from the training DVDs has bbeen pulled from sites due to copyright infringement claims.... bummer.... so save a copy of the vids you find somewhere Jim
