Help my doc said on Monday that I've aggravated my achilles tendon to the point that one wrong move could lead to a tear resulting in a foot cast Shocked

I haven't been able to train and im getting really anxious about the grading on Saturday as im having trouble with my ushiro geri's and kata, I also wont be taking part in the training before hand just incase I aggravate it even more!

Any advice about the kick, kata or tendon would be great...........

Hmmmm..... Angie - bit surprised that your Doc. didn't tell you to strap it up and stop training for a while...... you really really really really really (you get the point) don't want to  risk a tear or any serious injury to your Achilles (or anyother tendon for that matter).

A guy in our club tore his last year and he's still recovering and not "fully training" to the level he was a year a go....needed surgery to reattach.... so if you haven't already please check again with your doctor.

Hope it's not really as bad as you've described so take care of it now and save a long recovery later.

Jim.

Yeah my doc did tell me to rest it otherwise I could end up in a cast for months, I'm within two minds to take a chance on saturday, but then do i want to damage it more and end up in not been able to train for months.............

Oh I don't know, knowing my luck it would snap half way through my kata Sad

Don't risk it Angie - besides now that you've admitted publicly that it would be against your Doctor's advice - Moley probably won't let you anyway  Sad - but it's for the best - better to let it heal - there's always another grading but you've only got one body.  Sad

what s the rush in getting your next belt now? If you end up tearing your achilles because you pushed it too much, you'll end up waiting longer for other gradings than you would if you rest it now (before it goes).

Very true indeed, there will be plenty of opportunities to grade again after all it's not about the colour of belt you wear Smile
listening to all you guys I would be stupid to risk a tear and miss months of training again.

Sorry Moley I wont be there on Saturday  Sad

Good for you Angie - the time will fly past and you'll be fine in no time  Smile

...and you're quite right - it's not about the colour of the belt you wear - it's about "the belt you give"  Very Happy

I think you've chosen the wise option Angie, in the stress of the grading it would be very easy to try to go just that bit further, and as you've pointed out, the consequences would be dire.  Did the doc give you any advice regards exercises to strengthen/stretch ?

some info here - but take professional advice.

Angie!I've been wondering where you've been hiding!I hope your foot is ok(obviously it's not,but you know what I mean!)

Just think on the bright side you said that you're having trouble with your Kata, this gives you time to improve it. Very Happy (And it means that you're not risking making your injury worse as well!)

Wise decision Angela.
See you back in training when you are 100%
Will remove grading stuff now and send it to you.

No the doc didn't give me any advice about strengthening exercises which im a little annoyed about so im going back to see her on Monday, all she told me to do was rest and be careful not to do anymore damage! It's my own stupid fault for starting my running again and pushing myself to quickly Sad

Hiya Emma it wasn't a problem with the kata itself more anxious about the jump tearing the tendon as I havent been able to test it.................. and yeah your right it gives me more time to get back into training and feel comfortable with it for the next grading Smile

I just feel a little guilty that I wont be there to take the pics and support everyone............

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE who is grading on saturday

I'm gutted for you Angie, but it definitely sounds like the right choice. Are you coming out after? apparently as well as beer, chocolate cake is on the menu.
