Can somebody explain to me what the scoring system is for competition kumite ? e.g. What constitutes a half point what gets a full ippon.

Cheers

Rule 1. - Don't get hit
Rule 2. - Hit your Opponent before he hits you

Too much contact = Disqualification
Running away twice = Disqualification.
Fall on the floor = Start with your heels on the line.
"Gotcha with that one"= Wazari
"You would've been dead Pal!" = Ippon

Running away twice = Disqualification.

Fair enough but what constitutes running away ? Does stepping back, for example to avoid a kick, constitute running away ?

Eh? What does this mean ? On the subject of falling on the floor does a successful sweep score or does there need to be a follow-up punch/kick as a finishing blow ?

Stepping out of the area once Jogai Ikkai
Stepping out again = Jogai Nikkai Meaning the opponent gets a Wazari.
(So really i's going out of the area 4 times you lose) Avoiding does not mean Jogai

Sweep followed by a punch obviously a score. But if a fighter slips and the opponent cannot take advantage; to maximise this advantage after Yame has been called, the one who slipped has to start fighting again right on the line. If he goes over then Jogai Ikkai.

Problem student

I very sorry to have to report that "Mad Dog Lloydie" has "Done it again"
Poor old "Hef Frankie" was viciously beaten up by this "Thug" last night in training.
Any suggestions as to what we can do with this "Scrapper" ?

Gwilym was quite right; he shouldn't have let you see that DVD "Gangs of New York" His comment to me was: "Dad get's carried away when he sees violent films"
Which explains why Lloydie kept laughing and shouting "Whoops a Daisy" every time he smacked poor old Frankie.

well I think Mad Frankie must have been watching "Alien" 'cos, where he bit my hand is really red and poorly-looking.  I think that his saliva is slowly eating through my hand!!

On to the "medical update".
I am reliably informed that Frankie is just up to sipping some weak gruel through a straw. ( I kid you not!)

Get well soon, Frankie

Dave,

This incident was not entirely your fault, you see the problem lies with the poor quality of the referee; this leads to the fighters becoming frustrated and anxious to display scoring techniques to the blind ref.  these are Moley's words not mine, although I do tend to agree with him on this point.

By the way, who WAS refereeing?

Can't quite remember, Mole Bach.  I was too intent on my opponent.  I seem to remember a big guy with ginger hair, but it's all a bit vague.  Azzy was watching - perhaps he can help us out
