Any one heard of a training method from a student of 33 years in kung fu MR (Master) Harry WONG!, It’s a type of isometric training although there’s motion in the contraction. Supposedly it gives the benefits of weight training without the side effects strains back injuries and torn ligaments. Increases muscle, power and flexibility. I tired one of the exercises yesterday for the chest and my pecks are sore, the good after weight training kind. It's funny that you've mentioned this because I've recently become interested in isometric training.It's so easy to do you can do it anywhere,even simple things like pushing against a closed door is an example of isometric training because the muscles in your arms contract but stay the same length.Isometric training uses isometric contractions in your muscles to strengthen them. I've started to do isometric stretching to develop strength in my muscles when they're in a stretched position,putting resistance against a stretch causes an isometric contraction but if you do to much isometric stretching you feel the pain the next day,I've been there,you regret it afterwards! I'm sure there was a topic on isometric training or isometric stretching on this before.

isometric isn't as good as dynamic strength for the fact that isometric decreases flexibility, and lack range of motion therefore the lack of development throughout the muscle.
Dynamic strength aims to try an get rid o that problem, Isometric training would cause muscle soreness in the start but will soon go because its just that your body hasn't adapted enough to flush the lactic acid from the muscle.
It implies this is really beneficial for martial arts in general although a Karate practitioner would benefit a lot from quick snapping motion of power which is developed from training in this way.

Are you a "Sports science" student or something ?? All this sounds familiar..... Gizmo ???? As an aside. My father sent away for a "Health and strength" programme just before the war. He thought it would help him get stronger and fitter for his Boxing. It arrived and was an "isometric based package". It must've worked because he was one helluva strong man.

o ye it does work no worries. downside of isometric training is that it can be dangerous for people with high blood pressure though and it reduces flexibility as much as i know...
although all I'm saying is that Supposedly this guy which in fact invented this type of training says its the best way probably trying to make himself the mussia of strength training.

there one where you - stretch your arms out and press both palms against each other as hard as you can then you bend your elbows moving the hands (pressing against each other) closer to the body then you move the palms to rotate up and then rotate them down ( so your little finger is pointing downwards) and move the arms back to the start position always keeping maximum tension and repeat 6 times. The whole motion should be done to the count of 5

Well ma enw fin big give away  lol. Ye he probably was, its been around for ages in the 70's it had a big time boom for isometric training, i have a bi-product of that in my house BULLWORKER! Dynamic strength just a method one could possibly put into their training program to train harder... :S. same could be said for isometric and other trianing methods on there own i bet they don't pack as much punch as if they were paired with weight training. Become the Arnold Schwarzenegger of karate!

whilel on the subject of strength, think of the uses for a bag filled with sand. lifting and become it can change the difference in were the pressure is ( sand moving around) you can curl it, throw, punch, clean and jerk it in a fast potion increasing all round power. any thoughts?

yes needed great way to do some "cardio" gets your heart rate up and keeps it there burning lot of cals by using the swings beth am dana chdi ? ond seeing as mana ketelbells yn meas glas a ti yn mynd i maes glas a esti ddod ar subject fynu i euss you have as well ?  lol.

the only way i cant get through alex defenses is using the jeet kune do method of striking . but once im there................... i think alex will have the upper hand hahaha. i might be able to use a Brazilian jujitsu method on him tho get in close head lock rap the old legs around his waist wait for him to pass out and then ill run.
i only know the basics of those methods though i wont use my karate skills seeing as im only a white belt and only 3 months in haha.
