Alex, If you do go up against Clive at the grading, and you do ok, or do well, how do you think you will feel afterwards, and how do you think your fellow Seki's will feel? You will do your best, and thats all you can ask from yourself. Good luck.  |

We do our kihon and kata before fighting All the kumite is saved for the end That's how it usually goes - someone correct me if I'm wrong! And anyway Alex, this karate lark isn't meant to be a walk in the park. It does all of us good to be thrown around a bit every now and then! PLUS if you carry on with blood all over your face, Kawasoe Sensei will see that you have good spirit!  |

If they have to cross over the grades in the kumite (ie: 1st kyus vs shodans) they'll keep all the kumite til the end
That's what happened when bronwen passed her black belt anyway.
Check with gwyn.
I can't see why they'd do the shodan grading, make you fight, then make u do kihon and kumite, and make u fight again.
The fight against Clive will count towards you grading so it'll be easier if they save all the kumite til the end.
And anyway who cares when u fight? Stop ffaffing around and just accept that you have to fight Clive.

Do you know, its funny, but I wonder if Clive is on another forum somewhere saying, OMG, OMG I have to fight Alex / Huw / Dave / etc etc next weekend...... it would be ironic, no? He might be just as worred as you Alex. Look at what you have acheived at your age...... I would be very proud personally if I was you, and proud of you, if I was related to you as well. No matter what happens, you have done very well to get to this point, accept that, and try to let events take care of themselves. By the way, please do not save this, and use it in a couple of years time when I am considered ready to go for my Dan grading.........cause I'm sure I will be doing my nut in at this point. |

Quite right Manaon - Alex should be preparing based on the fact that he WILL be fightig Clive - better somebody you know - that way you can plan a strategy. TBH I'd be more worried about who might be called up to fight me from the existing Nidans/Sandans etc. if there's not enough Nidan Candidates..... Jim |
