Unity of action takes precedence over speed of action
« on: October 17, 2003, 01:10:43 PM »
This is another snippet of advice from the "Valuable Advice" section of Plee's book "Beginner to Black Belt" (My all-time-favourite karate book).

Plee says of this section:

"This manual is for beginners. Accordingly, I shall give you here, in no particular order, some advanced advice which will be a veritable mine of "secrets" for those who read them. You may understand them at first glance, but as you progress, you will understand them better and often in a different way".

Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to hear different interpretations of this piece of advice.

Susan,
I'd love to reply with some intelligent/witty answer to your post, however, no matter how many times I read it, it makes absolutely no sense to me what so ever.  but I promise that, as soon as it makes sense, I'll post something worthy of debate.

UNITY OF ACTION TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER THE SPEED OF THE ACTION

When focusing on diffrent parts of the body when practising and then focusing on speed i remember that you can,t have speed until you can unite your actions..which is obvious i know but i always forget

Jewels, thank you very much for making some sense of this for me.   Like Mole Bach, I had read it again and again and just could not grasp what the hell it was trying to convey.  Your post gives me a bit of a grasp on the slippery beast  :?
