What does the colour of your belt mean at the Seki Ryu Zan ?

Ungraded /White - You have started your journey. The snow at the top of the Seki Mountain is still white and pure. No footprints there yet.

9th Kyu / Red - The colour of the Seki Dragon that is beginning to awake within you.

8th Kyu /Orange - The colour of the Dragon's fiery breath and the techniques that you are now starting to master.

7th Kyu/Yellow - The colour of parchment, usually used for maps and also the flame of a candle often used in olden days to show the way. A sign that you are going in the right direction.

6th Kyu /Green - The colour of nature and the sign that your body is starting to move and behave naturally.

5th Kyu /Purple - A fiery red temper is cooled by the calm blue. You are becoming balanced.

4th Kyu/Purple and white - The white adds purity to the balance that you are now mastering.

3rd Kyu / Brown - The colour of the good Earth and a sign that you are well on the way along the track to reach the top of the mountain - your goal.

2nd Kyu / Brown -  Still on brown; The last bit is hard.

1st Kyu / Brown and white - Still on the track, but almost there, you are now touching the snow near the top.

Shodan /Black - The highest honour.
