Maybe a video of someone smashing some blocks - you know the kind of thing - dust everywhere, big kiai etc etc
Taiko drummers would be a good sound track!

Moley - the answer will depend on who your target audience is - what type of students are you trying to attract ? - if you want to attract Kids then film segments of the "Three K's" from kids classes - if it's teenage males emphasise the "action/sport/kumite/breaking" stuff - if it's young women perhaps include some SD against bigger males etc. - if it's older students then have the "decrepits " (lloydie and yourself perhaps?  :P) beating the cr@p out of the "young alpha males" (Alex perhaps?) etc. etc.  and if it's ALL of these groups then shoot several and come up with a way of expsoing the target group to the respective demo shoot.

Just some thoughts.  :)

...and regarding the best angle for shooting I think that shooting slightly upwards from a lower position works best for general "action" shots - as opposed to "the referees view" - if that makes sense. For breaking stuff the "best" viewpoint will depend on the "strike" direction to an extent but you would normally (IMO) start off "zoomed out" and then zoom in and reorientate to capture the break from your preferred viewpoint.

You can also capture breals from diffenet close up viewpoints/angles as well.

I'd suggest using more than one camera as well to capture the action simultaneously from different viewpoints - as this allows you more creative options" when editing - e.g. "picture in picture" for the break with the close up/other-angle either in a box on-screen or as a video overlay etc.

Thanks for all that advice Jim. Looks like you know your stuff.

Thing I like best though is:

- if it's older students then have the "decrepits " (lloydie and yourself perhaps?  :P) beating the cr@p out of the "young alpha males" (Alex perhaps?)

I agree with everything Jimmy just said...

One question though... Where would you play the video??
If people search "Karate" on Google/Youtube etc they are already interested in it.

*Lightbulb moment* Why not make a viral video?
What I mean by this is something REALLY amazing and impressive like smashing a big pile of bricks or a board with a flying migeri.
Get it filmed professionally and post it on youtube. Then get everyone in the WTKF to send the link to their friends and (hopefully) they will send it on to their friends.
This is how lots of companies are spreading the word about their brand.
Watch Rude Tube on E4 to see how effective it is.
This will also attract the young 'uns.

Glad to be of service Guys - I knew that would appeal BTW  :D

And Manon - you could "show" the video to target groups where you might not be able to actually perform a Demo and of course you'd have all versions available on Youtube and other video hosts - or even mail copies to Schools (or Care Homes  :D) etc. -  The trick is to turn "hadn't thought about it" people into "I'm interested in Karate" people....

Is it possible to add such links to the website.... Having them play on the home page when someone types seki ryu zan in google and click on the link. there would be a home page with he video in plain site.

This would all come together with the fliers and pamphlets that are given out to maes glas and schools so forth... It would be a quick show of what is seki.
Maintain the traditions of the dojo, keeping the spirit of karate alive.

Great Idea - should be possible too  - just an embedded YouTube Link =D>
