Nothing even happening on your dremelled areas then judging from that picture moley - if it was the you could just wire brush strip the remainder and coat it all.

Looks like you may need to strip - coat and laquer if you're going to salvage that at all - still worth giving the gunshop a call probably but you're definitely going to need to strip the whole thing now in any case....

If you want it stripping back to bare metal let me know, I have a sandblasting cabinet and it will only take a few minutes.
