I had deliberately stopped the lens down as far as possible in order not to have to use flash. This did work, but I hadn't considered the effect it would have on multiple subjects.

Next time I will use a smaller aperture and the hotshoe flash unit!

Hotshoe flash isn't very powerful so if you are depending on it to shoot a large group with a 50mm (75 mm effective on a crop sensor dslr) you will most likely be quite far away and will need to bump the ISO up to 400/800 perhaps to increase effective pop up flash range.

Jim

Cheers Jim - I have an external unit to attach to the hotshoe rather than the popup unit, so a little more effective

Fair Enough - after all you did say "hotshoe unit" - DOH! - in which case don't forget the diffuser since bounce wont really be an option in a games hall  Laughing

TRy the "All Sizes" option on Flickr and make sure you select the Large/Original size for donwload - may just be that it's a small size you are downloading...

If  you right-click on the downloaded piccie on your PC and view the properties the summary info should tell you the picture dimensions/resolution...

Whats the link to the Flickr copy ?

Have you tried downloading the original sized version and then using that for the Tesco Application upload ?

Piccie looks fine to me for printing - if you still have probs. let me know what size you need and I can print a copy off - off on Hols on Saturday for 2 weeks though.  Smile

Houston- we have a problem. Ive printed the pic and the bigger the size of the photo - the less it shows of the whole group. In the biggest, Carwyn, Pete Ault and most of Mole Bach is missing, if the pic is 7x5 then Carwyn is there and more of MB. How can I get a photo of everyone in it- why did Tesco cut them out?Ok, I'm expecting some wise ass comments as well  Laughing

..but seriously that will happen if the original picture dimensions are not the same ration as the print size you choose and most camera picture sizes are not a direct match for the ratio of the output size - most online picture print shops usually have an option to print the original print size - but then you will end up with the closest match to the size you selected. Usually - well at least with Jessops - it will display the thumbnails prints with a little box on them showing how the print size selected will "map" to the picture size you input...

why did Tesco cut them out?

It may be something to do with the argument I had with the stupid woman on the till about non-steroidals and overdose. Laughing
