10K karate comp

For those of you who subscribe to Mr Murdoch's evil empire of the dish, Sky Sports 3 has a UK karate kumite competition  featured every week.  It's on from 10:00-10:30 pm, commentary by Ticky Donavan.  I taped last night's - some good fights - (they still wouldn't hold a candle to Mad Frankie)  if anyone wants to borrow it, let me know.

Dave,
Arthur lent me the tape......what can I say
Ok, SOME good fights (must have missed those).
Seriously though, Karate as a spectator sport simply does not work, no matter how well it is packaged by television/sky companies, it still looks as corny as Startsky and Hutch :)
Now, should Sky show the JKA comps (or equlivant) or training at the JKA Honbu instructors course, then I would happily sit down and watch it, however, at the current quality (fight school et al) of Karate/martial art coverage on the box, it only inspires those drunks in the pub..
"Oh, you do Karate don't you?, have you been to china to train with the master?  NO!!, oh, you can't be very good then"

Ahhhhhhhh Lloydie

After my nasty nasty trick played on your good self and Azzy on Saturday..

Now you know

There's no substitute for getting out there and DOING THE REAL THING !

Sorry 'bout that Lloydie but I thought it would be GREAT experience for you and Azzy to undergo the Blood initiation early on.
Now you've done it, next time will be a piece of cake.

Picking up the thread from Mole Bach and his views on TV Karate, can the forum comment on the videos sold via this link:

http://www.legendtv.co.uk/productions.htm

On first inspection, they look like good kumite eye openers/tradition & history/technique vids, to a new karateka.

Can anybody comment on the quality and usefulness of any of the titles listed?

Do any Seki members have copies and is there a 'try before you buy' opportunity to look a one or two?

Basically these videos are KUGB Film clip collections from the bloodbaths of the early Karate Competitions in this country. You must however bear in mind that this would never be allowed today.

If you want some suitable videos for training enhancement. The Kawasoe Videos are great. Vol 1 - 4.

Having read through some of the video descriptions the 'Legend' video looks pretty good. Especially as it seems to cover the Welsh team  8)  8)  8)

Seriously Moley is there any video/DVD you can recommend which concetrates on kumite - i.e. stratergies, tips and tricks etc. I know nothing can replace dojo practise in this field but it would be pretty interesting viewing !!

Ahhh, the good old days; I remember them well...................

Kev's broken nose,
The training,
Kev's broken nose,
Visiting the C&A,
Kev's broken nose,
The blood on the floor,
Kev's broken nose,

and this was before the comp started

(quiz) Who was mostly responsible for the multiple breakage of Kev's nose?

Dave do you know if it is being shown Eurosport at any time? I know it was an exclusive to Sky last year, but I see Eurosport are a sponsor.

Haven't seen anything about coverage yet.  However the event is in October (over one night I believe) and I think that they then trickle out the fights over a period of weeks in Nov.  At least that's what they did last year.
