Why do students forget kihon ?
« on: January 15, 2004, 08:29:31 AM »
Why does kihon, go to pot when students do kumite ?
I find it very frustrating that even though it is stressed that in all forms of kumite, even the Juy-kumite; form, posture and stance should exemplify that of good kihon, students invariably revert to weak techniques and stances when facing a partner. This happens to students who do most of their training in kihon, do the techniques over and over to a count with a partner, have excellent kihon and yet, look like two ten year old girls slapping each other in all forms of kumite without a count.
Why ?
Cryf oedd calon hen y glas glogwyni,
Cryfach oedd ei ebill ef a'i ddur,
Chwyddodd gyfoeth gwr yr aur a'r faenol,
O'i enillion prin a'i amal gur.

Oh shut up Julian!
Sorry Moley..your right of course, but why does everyone else have such short arms and legs? by the time i've worked out the distance its all gone to pot. Having said that..Carl was very helpful in suggesting i sort of slide my feet in and out, rather than being so static and rigid, and he was the right size, and he wasent patronising or scary...i am trying!
