OK I'm totally showing my ignorance here, so forgive me. Why is this so hard- is it cos its knackering or is it cos the technique is so difficult to perform or does the blade need sharpening  Confused or something totally different.
I'm sure if I actually tried it myself I would realize straight away the difficulty, but as I have not experience whatsoever, please enlighten me, you pros  Very Happy

You need to have a go yourself Smile Technique is required to cut cleanly through the target, otherwise you just end up knocking the tatami off it's stand! The cutting technique is very similar to kime - focusing on the point of impact when the blade meets the target. Maybe someone has a better way of explaining this?!

The thousand cuts thing is simply an edurance test I guess. Keeping the 'focus' for that number of repetitions is pretty impressive IMHO.
