just had a visit from a karateka, suggesting instead of thinking of doing another night for beginners what about doing 2 number 1 hour sessions on Wednesday say 6 till 7 or 8 till 9? what are your views?

Apparently there were around 70 there tonight, which is difficult to teach ... might be an option, but it would need to fit in with what is available in the hall.

I think the greatest difficulty might be getting instructors there for six. Other than that I can see the benefits for the plan - youngest kids train 6 -7, older ones 7-8. Obviously we would need to be flexible with this as parents might also have difficulty with different times.

The biggest drawback is the additional load on instructors. If we move forward with this we have to have everyone 'on board'. What do you think Moley/MB?

We will re-assess the situation post grading.

We will look at figures on ALL nights and clamp down on the "Sunday school trip" syndrome. (Actually I did to some extent this time so we must wait to see the collateral damage)

Beginning of September we looked in awe as about 60 new people (young, fit, male and female) joined the Boxing club who train after us.
We were all saying.. "Why them?" "Why not us?"  "Why didn't our recruitment methods work?"   :( :( :(

Last Monday there were 3 in the Boxing club.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!! Good point Moley. I'd suggest waiting till the new year before looking into this in detail. Arwel is making a valid point about the class sizes but it only remains an issue if we continue with 60+ students all the time. 50ish is surprisingly manageble !!  8)

Agree - waiting until the new year will give us enough time to monitor the situation before committing to anything.

I think that the more mature karateka beginners feel a bit cramped in a big class other than that everybody seems very enthusiastic and with a sense of loyalty to the wednesday class and its instructors. This week the biggest part of the wednesday night I believe were the new starters that were not grading, very encouraging for the future.
