Jimmy - Wow thanks, that actually makes things a lot clearer. The technique you described is pretty close to the soto-uke application I experimented with, except the torso is better defended becasue you're 'inside' your opponent. I assume the 'blocking' left hand could possibly also be used to attack the nerve centre under the armpit in this situation.
Moley - Is this stuff really 'secret' or just 'hidden'?

Maybe it's "Just not taught" I have been told that I'm more a "Feeley" person rather than a "Visualising" person. This was in another walk of life. I suppose it's also true about my karate..I can remember feelings and stimuli that my body has experienced during Kihon, Kata and even kumite. I can even now "Picture" (BUT PICTURE IS THE WRONG WORD) perhaps a better word is "Re-Feel" the physical sensations. A good block, Whomp, The position for maximum advantage Shooom, The timing of impact, TsingEven Being hit.. Ooooooof! This is why I believe it's important to "Feel" what each movement in Kata really feels like "On impact" Hence the "Rolf Harris" sessions. these last few weeks. "Can you tell what it is yet ?"Very rewarding when the juniors recognised the last Sparring drill we covered as bits from Heian Yondan.

well Jimmy, as this was last year's Xmas competition, I think we should open it up to all 6 different ways in which uchi-uke can be used Lloydie My goodness has it really been a whole Year since you Welshies lost interest in Karate ? 1) Block a Chudan Tsuki and fail miserably resulting in 3 cracked ribs 2) Block a Chudan Tsuki a little better resulting in only two cracked ribs this time 3) Block a Chudan Tsuki better still this time and only get badly winded resulting in a Barf Coloured opponents Gi 4) Block a Chudan Tsuki but this time you don't get hit as you finally used Sabaki to shift your by now quite fragile ribs out of the way inside the attacking arm. 5) Block a Chudan Tsuki but this time body shift to the outside of the attacking arm block arm with Hike-Te hand - grab and twist arm and finish by breaking at the elbow joint with the block because of all the previous cracked ribs. 6) Knock a Pensioner out of the way as they try to barge into a Queue in front of you
