Good Basics - A goal in its own right or a means to an end?

Yes... I wondered why the harder and longer i try the worse i get! what you said has just put into words the feeling i,ve had lately, sometimes i try and do something repetatively for ages the correct way (i hope) and then go away and try it later without thinking about it and see if it has sunk in, but practising repetatively and trying too hard is a very fine line to distinguish.  and as well i miss  being a complete beginner with that freedom because i appreciated it without being self-critical and without aspiration. Also i,ve come to the conclusion that practising enough for it to sink in and become proficiant is going to take years and years, duh!  everyone knew that but me right? : :?

The beauty of Karate for me is that I can't do it !

Therefore this means that even now after a few years I am still learning and striving to improve my technique and will always have something to work towards.

Excellent.

I'm serious, there is always something to work on, learn or perfect in Karate. That is why we still "TRAIN"  meaning still learning to do something properly.
I was once on a Karate course, kneeling down and watching the master demonstrate and explain a technique. Sitting down next to me, also listening and learning were; Kawasoe sensei, Naito Sensei and Shirai Sensei.

BTW the instructor on that particular course was Kase sensei.

Thank you sensei GWYN, I was recently brought seriously down to earth in a recent training session whereby I felt that for the past two years I had learnt nothing .In that one session I learnt that I had indeed learnt something in the last couple of years but that there was still a lot to be learnt. 'the way' is indeed a long way.......................................................................... and on that path I shall continue.......................thank you
