Biggest problem with Tameshigiri (Wood breaking) is expense ! The wood costs a lot of money to buy and cut to size...and all we do is smash them and throw them away.

There are however re-breakable plastic boards of varying difficulty. The black one being almost impossible to break without proper technique.

 Very Happy Yes Huw bring the white board as well, I was going to ask Moley on Monday if Arth could bring his camera to take some action photo's of me to put in my karate album, before my hip starts to really give me hell. A photo of me braking a board would be brilliant. Very Happy Very Happy Cool

I've got a few of the board - I'll bring the white one - only problem with these type of boards is that they tend to have a bit of a sharpish edge to them until they have been broken a few times.

Bringing padded gloves will be a good idea

eh every1 i broken a brick da oda day wen i was with ma mate, he was impressed, it isnt reli dat hard uno, but for some reason choppin it breaks its a lot easyer then punchin it,

but anyway, 5 inches of pine wood?? u meant 5 inches thick??? or s it jut this sheet dat s 5 inches big?????

Hi Alex - the original concept behind asking the question was really just to get people thinking about the technique involved  in Tameshiwara/Breaking - but the "5 inches of pine" was refering to breaking 5 1 inch thick pine boards one on top of the other  Wink

Probably means that your punching incorrectly - maybe not using the correct part of the fist or wrist alignment is out allowing the punching forse to be dissipated.....

surpose yeah, i will try agen with with my punch, s it reli posibble though? coz 5 inchs of wood s kinda thick, and pine is kind of hard too, i can break mdf n stuff like dat with ma punch, but i will try with ma fist n i shall buy some pine tomorrow, i will tell you how it goes,  can u break 5 inches of pine??
