Kyo
« on: November 07, 2006, 01:19:54 PM »
Last nights lesson was all about trying to create Kyo in your opponent by various techniques and then attacking.

I found this definition on Kyo:

"Kyo-jitsu  (n.)  Falsehood and truth.  (Kyo denotes lack of mental and spiritual energy, while Jitsu is a state of full mental and spiritual energy.  The key to Kendō is the ability to achieve a state of Jitsu, and to drive one's opponent into Kyo.)"

Fits in with my philosophy of "hit their soft bits with your hard bits when they are least expecting it". :)

sort of like this:

http://www.thatvideosite.com/video/2307

Note the legs positions of attacker and defender.  The defender eventually places himself in a position where he can't move freely and quickly because of: a) his poor stance & b) Leaning.  In contrast the attacker is well balanced, in a good stance and therefore able to launch forward.  Good lesson there i think

I think Kyo is more likely the opposite of Zanshin.. That is

Kyo = The switching off of your opponent's Zanshin... maybe
