This is the same situation as gohon-ippon.
If your opponent is pressed against the wall - you shouldn't
launch your attack but let them come off the wall and have adequate
room to move.
Similarly, if your opponent has no room to sabaki - either due
to the wall or other people in the line I think it is up to the attacker not to
launch a fully-fledged attack unless they have staggered position to give their opponent a fighting chance.

I agree.
Bear in mind that the instructor has so many things going on in his mind he sometimes forgets that all important word..."Stagger"
Isn't it strange that "Spread out for Kata" seems to roll automatically off the tongue ?
Anyway, have you noticed how many of the "Old Hands" spread out for kumite..without being told. I know this comes from being confidfent with the instructor. But in my opinion I think that everyone should do this and that it's not a breach of discipline in any sense: rather it is Common sense.

Sorry if i came acoss as peed off earlier.. its because i was really peed off! unforgivable really but short of throwing myself under a lorry and getting both my legs and my pelvis broken and then stretched apart in traction i really can,t see how my kicks!!! will improve. Practising is a dead loss because i must be subconciously taking the easy way out in to spare myself excruciating pain. okay i,ve had my paddy i,m off for a drink! :D

Jewels - It's OK to get p****d off, in fact it's probably healthy. Just don't get disheartened - you're making good progress. Enjoy your drink - you've earned it.
