Self defence
« on: May 15, 2007, 05:02:46 PM »
Last weekend I and some guys from my club attended a Bunkai-Jutsu held by Iain Abernathy in Oslo.
It opened a new perspective about our kata's and their origin.
Iain Abernathy himself did a fantastic job. Very nice guy, easy to chat with and good teacher.

Anybody else with experience in this?

Some pic's at our website www.spydebergkarate.no
Dojo kun says it all!!

Yes, I've trained with Iain a couple of times now. His presentation style is superb and the depth of his knowledge is constantly impressive. I also love how he demonstrates that stylistic differences in kata among karate styles address similar defense needs in different ways.
Its very different to the style of teaching we're used to in ITKF, but is a very interesting alternative perspective.
I've also had the "pleasure" of Iain demonstrating a wrist lock on me. He promised he was going to do it gently - I wouldn't like to see him do it for real!
