Kata Workshop
« on: February 22, 2003, 03:28:31 PM »
Just got back from the first two sessions of the kata workshop. Absolutely brilliant  8)  - thanks Moley, Mole Bach, Gizmo, Eryl and Icy for their instruction and patience.

To see and hear three Yondan's giving three different bunkai interpretations of the same sequence in Heian Godan was facinating. Thanks to everyone who took part - a most enjoyable afternoon. Any chance of a repeat performance - say Autumn some time ??

How's about an advanced kata special ?
Each instructor picks their favourite advanced kata or the one most suited for their own build and goes into detail etc etc ??

Great idea - speaking personally I don't know any advanced kata so it would be a real eye opener.

Excellent idea Moley - could we also video instructors perfoming their favorite kata?

Here's my starter for 10.

I think of Sochin as "My type of kata"
The solid sochin dachi stance and it's powerful attacks suit my type of fighting.
I baggsie this one..

I'm all up for another kata workshop - one issue though.

Many/most of us will be starting from scratch with any advanced kata. There's only so much you can learn from watching the JKA videos so it's going to be a 'long' day for instructors !!!      Having said that I've been looking at the Sochin video and it looks great  8)  8)  8)

On such a course everybody would approach the Kata
from SCRATCH.
Intensive study of that Kata would follow.
