The club was started in August 1989 after the demise of Gwynedd Shotokan. It is situated at Gym 1. Bangor University, Normal College Campus. Gwynedd. North Wales.
It is called the "Seki Ryu Zan" which is Japanese for "Mountain of the Red Dragon ". Since then, the “Seki Ryu Zan” has helped train over 80 people to achieve the coveted Black belt. Many of these people are still training at the club helping others achieve this goal. Some of the instructors have now been training in this Gym for over 35 years as there was a karate club there prior to it evolving into the now famous “Seki Ryu Zan”
The club badge has a Red Dragon on it, which represents Wales our homeland and also represents the fighting spirit of the club. The Mountain on the badge represents Snowdonia again a reference to our area, whilst the snow on top of the mountain represents the dedication needed to become a Black belt. Black belts as they fray from constant use gradually become white in colour. The black belt returns to become a white belt once again, hence completing the circle.
We practise a style of karate called "Shotokan" and have regular access and visits from the world’s top Japanese karate masters. The club has continually achieved major success in local, national and international karate competitions.
The instructors are fully qualified WKGB Coaches, insured, CRB checked and recognised by: The Welsh Karate Governing Body and The Sports Council for Wales.
